Negative Effects of Alcohol Use for Athletes
- High calories in alcohol that can contribute to weight gain – 1 standard bottle of beer has the same amount of calories as 3 chocolate chip cookies! Think about how quickly that can add up and break your calorie budget.
- Dehydration
- Binge drinking can make your soft tissue injuries worse, extending recovery
- Slower decision‐making, altered decision making
- Decreased performance and increased risk of injury if active while hung‐over or drinking
- Addiction and dependency
- Chronic alcohol consumption can also affect your finances!
- Chronic use may impair your body’s ability to absorb and utilize certain nutrients
